South Down Floods

John McCallister MLA has expressed his deep concern for the residents of South Down after hearing about the devastating events that took place on Saturday evening. Mr McCallister is currently out of the country but has urged anyone needing help or advice to contact his constituency office.

Mr McCallister said "I am currently out of the country but my office has been inundated with calls from many concerned locals. The aftermath of the flood has left many homes damaged and also many farmers without their crops."

"I have also been informed of roads throughout South Down that have been washed away by the floods. The Cavan Road, Rathfriland was damaged and resulted in 2000 properties in a 'No Water Situation'. This has now been repaired however, water pressure may be low but this should return to normal once the system has been recharged."

Mr McCallister continued "My sympathy goes out to all those affected by Saturday's extreme weather. If anyone has any concerns or requires help or advice, please contact my Constituency Office on 028 43724400 and my staff and I will endeavour to assist."
