I am outraged at the weekend attacks on the PSNI in Donard Park, in which five police officers were injured.
There seems to be a small number of narrow minded individuals disrupting and terrorising the everyday lives of local people in South Down. I find it unacceptable that anyone should be made to feel unsafe or at risk of an attack, never mind our Police Service.
I have received a number of complaints from local people concerned at general antisocial behaviour in the Newcastle area, particularly with regards to the elderly generation. They have expressed their deep concerns over the fear that these people face on a daily basis, with the constant threat of a possible break in. So I urge everyone to keep a vigilant eye in their community area; this type of behaviour has to be brought under control.
As a community, we need to work hand in hand with our Police Service, and aid them in their search for the perpetrators of this mindless and wreckless behaviour. This is not acceptable conduct for youths in one of Northern Ireland's tourist Hotspots, and the culprits should be held accountable for their actions.
There is no excuse for any type of abuse or disturbance in our communities. In my opinion, if anyone should be seen to or is caught committing a violent or disruptive act then their punishment should match the crime.
